Dr. Patricia Yarberry Allen is a collaborative physician who writes a weekly “Medical Monday” column for Women’s Voices for Change. This week, Dr. Pat has asked Anetta Reszko, M.D. Ph.D — dermatologist and Director of New York Skin Institute — to describe a list of tips and procedures that are available for women who want fresher and glowing skin over the holiday and winter months. Dr. Reszko has an excellent reputation as a dermatologic surgeon and shares in this post the before and after photos of a procedure injecting derma filler.
We recognize that women differ in their opinions about some of these procedures. The choices discussed in this post may not be “right” for women who feel that simple complexion care is just fine for them. But for those women who want options, these procedures performed by a physician who is technically skilled and aware of the latest safe developments, are a welcome solution to facial volume decline and disturbances of the complexion.

The holiday season is fast approaching. Here are some quick and effective holiday beauty tips to keep you glowing beautifully.
1. Resurfacing lasers (Clear + Brilliant, Fraxel, Erbium, Fractional CO2)
Benefits:
- Stimulates new collagen synthesis for a radiant, smooth complexion.
- Promotes skin repair and regeneration.
- Minimizes the appearance of large pores, discolorations, fine lines and wrinkles.
- Reduces pore congestion to eliminate acne and prevent it from forming.
Dr. Reszko’s Tip: Consider gentle non-ablative resurfacing with Clear + Brilliant for a smoother, more uniform complexion.
2. Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL)
Benefits:
- Rejuvenates while improving the overall appearance of the skin for a clear even-toned complexion.
- Repairs photoaging, freckling, age spots, blotchiness, irregular pigmentation and broken capillaries.
- Improves redness, sensitivity, and flushing of the face, neck and/or chest.
- Downtime: Minimal. Might result in a day of redness and swelling followed by up to 7 days of darkening of treated sun spots.
Dr. Reszko’s Tip: Best treatment to restore dry, stressed skin quickly.
3. Dermal Fillers (Juvederm®, Voluma, Volbella, Restylane®, Lyft, Silk)
Benefits:
- Fillers re-contour and lift to restore lost volume.
- Alters the major signs of chronological and photoaging
Dr. Reszko’s Tip: Consider treatment two to four weeks prior to your holiday party so you can discuss with your doctor the placement of filler to achieve most benefit and most natural looking result.

Dr. Reszko,
Your model’s lips look very pretty. What kind of filler did you inject? I had voluma injected into my lips and that injection resulted in hard nodules. What fillers should i have injected to prevent the nodules from forming? Are nodules more likely to happen with certain types of fillers?
Many thanks in advance.
Thank you for the kind comment.
It was juvederm. I like the fillers that are not highly cross linked ie. plain juvederm or restylane.
Highly cross linked collagen fillers have higher incidence of side effects including hypersensitivity reactions that present as hard inflammed nodules.
Plain nodule formation (without other side effects ie swelling, tenderness) might be also due to inappropriate injection technique where too much filler was placed in one area.
I would really have to see you to determine which of the scenarios could explain your lip nodules. Please stop by when in NYC.
The woman in these before and after pictures is naturally beautiful. However, I am really amazed by the results of the dermal fillers. Her face is simply transformed in the most subtle ways. Wow, amazing! Thank you for sharing these tips.
