If you’ve long since given up on late-night TV, which seems dominated by avuncular men and juvenile skits, your life may be about to change – or at least your options when you want to kick back. Reuters reports that 44-year-old comedienne Wanda Sykes is finalizing negotiations with Fox TV for her own late-night show, which will have a focus on public affairs. As Salon’s Judy Berman points out: “Sykes’ show will bear some resemblance to HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” — and that means we might finally see some substantive late-night conversation on a network.”

Substantive, yes – but also, to judge from Sykes’ performances on stage (see her riff on health care above) and in sitcoms like The New Adventures of Old Christine, there will be no shortage of laughs. Below, Sykes in the series as the ultimate Wedding Singer.
