Has the debt-ceiling debate in Congress gotten you down? Are you dreading the 2012 presidential election campaign? Do you see politics as permanent gridlock? Well, Roseanne Barr says she has the answer: She told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show Thursday night that she is running for president on the Green Tea Party ticket. On her website she offered this as her reason for running: “I’m tired of watching as men destroy all the world. Everything used to be beautiful when women were in charge, and now I, working as the physical manifestation of the goddess Isis and the reincarnation of Cleopatra, have decided to save the world.” (She adds that she is also running for prime minister of Israel.) Her campaign is reminiscent of the 1968 presidential campaign waged by the comedian Pat Paulsen, a regular on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. One of his slogans was, “Vote or Get Off the Pot.”
