Last month, we missed out on perhaps the most notable Grammy Award: the first to Mavis Staples, muse of the civil rights movement, who has been clueing in new generations in recent years by collaborating with the likes of Ry Cooder and performing at Jon Stewart’s Rally for Sanity last fall.
