As we now know, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has known Osama bin Laden’s name longer than most in public life. As first lady, she watched as the Clinton administration first struggled to contend with an old ally turned rogue, and the fear that his name struck with intelligence officials. As senator from New York, it was her constituents who were most affected by the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. And no doubt Clinton was advised at every stage of the commando operation that finally killed the leader of Al Qaeda last weekend. And now, she is secretary of state, her brief now including the Arab spring and the complex legacy of the “war on terror.”  We see much of the above in her statement below about this historic moment.
