It likely surprised few that The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess snagged a number of Tony nominations this week—there was certainly no surprise at WVFC, where our Alexandra MacAaron reported back on the show in glowing terms. So it was icing on the proverbial cake that star director Diane Paulus and actor Audra MacDonald were among those nominated, in a roster that goes all the way up to “Best Revival of a Musical.”

In the first video below, Paulus talks about the story’s “Catfish Row,” and how a place can be an important character. In the second, you get just a glimpse of MacDonald’s Bess, as she describes how she came to inhabit such a classic figure. As with all our women of honors, we think both are already winners.
