The biz brainiacs over at Quartz have launched some shockwaves about microwaves.  They say:

America is tired of the microwave.

Microwave sales have fallen or remained flat every year for nearly a decade in the U.S. Unit sales have tumbled by 25% since 2000, and 40% since their peak, in 2004.

Speculation is that rather than the ready explanation of market saturation, the explanation lies in the change in thinking about America’s diet, with stress on the fresh and the wholesome.  One can only hope.

    Well I’m not ready to give mine up but I never really use it to cook anything–just to reheat things. I agree that fresh foods are always better for us and attempt to include that with every meal. One reason that microwaves might be out of fashion is because so many people don’t cook at home these days. Microwaves were supposed to make meals so much easier…but the easiest of all is just go out. And that is definitely not the most healthy.
