Just as news was breaking about the massacre in San Bernardino, Calif., Vogue magazine posted on its website an article by Jennifer Mascia in which she explains what it’s like to cover gun violence in America. Mascia is a staff writer for The Trace,  an independent, nonprofit news organization dedicated to expanding coverage of guns in the United States.

Of course, The Trace is covering the mass killings in San Bernardino, Calif. Mascia writes on the website today  “The San Bernardino Shooting: 7 Things to Know This Morning.”

Mascia, author of the memoir Never Tell Our Business to Strangers, is an alumna of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and was an editorial assistant at The New York Times, where she wrote “The Gun Report,” a daily blog post on gun violence in America.

We applaud Mascia’s commitment to in-depth coverage of gun violence in America. We are also sad that her efforts are so necessary.
