This Fashion Friday, we’re privileged to feature Ridgely Brode, the voice behind the lifestyle blog Ridgely’s Radar.

I like to think of myself as a practical woman who can live with a few pieces of clothing. I aim to be the lady who packs an overnight bag that can be carried onto the plane, not checked because it is too heavy and large to accommodate the baggage guidelines. When I think about my five must-have winter-wardrobe pieces, I think about what I would pack for a trip.  In my mind the two go hand in hand. Not only do I want to dress in my favorite pieces when traveling so I feel and look my best, but I would be happy wearing them over and over again!  Here are the five winter essentials that I am going to pack my bag with:  1. An Oversized Scarf.  I am always cold, and I hate a draft around my neck and chest. I wear a scarf all year round in varying degrees of weight and fabric, but never the bulky, heavy weaves—they seem to overwhelm me. I especially like a scarf that can double as a wrap and that I can cuddle into when I am very cold. I am always on the hunt for new patterns and textures to add to my collection. I would love to own this one, from Neiman-Marcus:    2. Flat Riding Boots. I live in my boots from the minute the leaves start falling off the trees until the green starts sprouting in the spring. I wear them with skinny jeans, skirts, and dresses.  I make sure to get a good polish and check the soles each season so they keep looking sharp.  Here is a perfect pair:   3. Yummie Tummie Short Sleeve Invisible T-shirt. This is my little secret weapon!  I wear this tee under sweaters and blazers all winter long.  It has an invisible panel that smoothes out the waistline, minimizing any love handles and tummy bulges.  Everyone needs one!   4. Velvet Blazer. I wear blazers all year round, but during the winter I am a sucker for velvet. I love finding fun colors to pop with my-all black ensembles.  I think I may need to invest in this one from J.Crew.  (It would also go very nicely with the scarf above!)   5. Colored Skinny Jeans.  I cannot believe this has become my wardrobe essential, but I tried a pair of Joe’s Jeans in Chili Pepper Red and I have been hooked ever since!  I love how they fit.  They are so comfortable for sitting at work all day long or running around with the kids on the weekend.  The red certainly was a departure for me but, as I get older, I seem to be getting bolder in my color choices.  I now have a rainbow of colors.  There are so many brands to choose from, in all price ranges, that it would be hard not to find a perfect fit for your body and wallet. Here is my favorite:    As I review my choices, I realize I have created a full outfit with my selections!  How lucky is that?  Looks like I do not need to pack a bag . . . just need somewhere to go!
