We were happy for Melissa Leo, though less thrilled with her acceptance speech. But when it came time for screenplay awards, came our first real regret: “I can not believe that The Social Network beat out Winter’s Bone,” Dr. Allen said. “Unfortunately, I can,” Alex replied. Meanwhile, The Kids Are All Right lost the original screenplay award to The King’s Speech, an award still hailed by our Alexandra MacAaron.  And with that came  the first such awards for both of the frontrunners, The King’s Speech and The Social Network.

Now, as I write, our first big win for a woman director – Susanne Bier for In A Better World!

Trending: Stupidly messy hair and architecturally engineered bodices. Also autotune. I do not like any of these things.

A tweet: “James Franco is so hilariously baked.” That may explain his odd demeanor!

But Colleen Atwood is a pro, and her speech is elegant. She’s not embarrassed to be reading it!

So much attention to makeup, jewelry, dresses. But what about hair? Marisa Tomei, Scarlett Johansson(sp?)– what were they thinking?

Did Christian Bale steal Geoffrey Rush’s hair and glue it to his face?

Nicole Kidman is beautiful, gracious and articulate; Over 40 and more attractive than any of the younger actresses. She should give lessons.
