Last hour, we had lots of love for presenters Helen Mirren and Nicole Kidman, astonishment at the transformation of Best Supporting Actor winner Christian Bale (“Would you have recognized him in that beard?”) and a different kind of astonishment at the hair of some of the younger actresses. “So much attention to makeup, jewelry, dresses. But what about hair? Marisa Tomei, Scarlett Johansson(sp?)– what were they thinking?” “I agree. Do these women not own combs?” Now, we’re on to the last installment, and the most major awards — beginning with Best Documentary Short, to Karen Goodman and Kirk Simon for Strangers No More:
Not fair. Children from Staten Island public school and their real life music teacher turn these children with little hope into young people with charisma and self confidence. They are flown to LA and perform at the end of the Oscars singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow while I watch and listenwith tears rolling down my face.
Well,goodnight again.
Good night all! Thanks so much for hanging in!
Best Picture Blog Producer … Chris Lombardi!
Just be sure you brush your hair before you accept your award. 😉
It is a wrap: The King’s Speech.
Good night dear blogging comrades.
Twas fun and well organized by Chris!
Bridges won – and deserved it – for Crazy Heart.
Really, Chris? I’m really out of it. What did he win for? Then I’m really glad Colin won.
Another commercial break, another dress for Anne.
Bridges is overdue, Diane? He won LAST YEAR, as Sandra Bullock noted!
It’s definitely a two-for-one, Chris!
This is really Firth’s award for A SINGLE MAN, I think.
Jeff Bridges, like Annette, is overdue. I like Colin Firth a lot, and he’s done a lot of good work, but I think this year the award should go to Jeff.
Sandra Bullock was a perfect choice to present the Oscar for the best actor award. Professional, intelligent, charming, beautiful and funny.
I was not rooting for Portman, but I thought her speech was sincere and smart.
p.s. Nancy Franklin agrees with you, Alex: “James Franco has left the building.”
ANNETTE WUZ ROBBED. That is all.
Bridges probably wrote it himself.
Absolutely. The film actually stays with you, too.
Jeff Bridges’ presentation is very well written.
What! No wardrobe change for AH? How boring.
Wow, The Kids Are All Right clip reinforced my opinion that Julianne Moore should have been nominated too!
I think Anne Hathaway is trying too hard because her cohost is missing.
Yeah that was Department of Obvious.
Finally Katherine Bigelow the first woman to win an Oscar for director is trotted out to remind us that this is not a boy’s club. But of course the director of Winter’s Bone was not even nominated…
That part of the ceremony is always well done. The music was lovely too.
I do like Ann’s latest dress, though her smile suggests she’s had some of Franco’s blunt.
How many beloved people we lost last year!
Halley always gives it everything. Perfect hair, makeup, dress and speech.
Don’t forget Jennifer Hudson
The whole segment was classy – and pointed painfully to how WHITE was the rest of the ceremony, except for Oprah and that odd bit with Morgan Freeman.
halle looks amazing…as always
Yes! Not only is the song good, but it’s an intrinsic part of the Toy Story personality.
Eleanore: When you look up “Overrated’ in the dictionary there’s a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow, I think.
But SO good to see Randy Newman win!
Gwyneth Paltrow– another nominee for bad (not worst) hair award.
But I think Hudson can carry it. Good for her for getting into that great shape!
Gwenyth is country music’s newest STAR? Really?
I take it back abt Hudson’s dress. The color IS dreadful.
But 127 Hours is about as long as this broadcast has taken!
Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law are just dreadful. Who writes the dialogue for these presenters?
Funny!
Will McKinley: “Reanimated Bob Hope should host next year.”
That’s supposed to be sexy. ???
Y’know how we were dissing some of the actresses for not brushing their hair. Well, obviously some of the actors forgot to shave.
I mean as the Academy Awards host
I remember Bob Hope– he was nasty to everybody
Okay, so now we can directly compare Hathaway and Franco to Crystal and Hope. Uh-oh.
The moment we’ve been waiting for! Billy Crystal is sure to hit!
Oprah looks marvelous. Thank you.
