Today is the day! It’s time for red carpets, teary speeches, and bets lost and won. We are live-blogging the Oscars tonight to cheer on our favorites and dish about the absurdities.
Starting at 7 p.m. (EST) tonight, Sunday, February 28, we’ll be watching the 88th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Chris Rock.
Join us right here, cheer along, scroll down, and comment. (Log in any time during the ceremony that you feel the urge to opine.) We welcome your remarks—as short or long as you like. Comments will be screened before we post them, and our online chats are famously civil (if a little catty sometimes about fashion). Feel free to share your point of view. Feel free to share links and photos—and Tweets @womensvoices, too!
Happy husband happy wife!
And another!
One more. 😉
OMG! Mad Max has THREE OSCARS.
One happy house here.
The Husband is thrilled!! Mad Max has TWO Oscars. But, I think this is it for Mad Max. Don’t tell The Husband.
The Husband is SO happy that Mad Max won its first Oscar of the night. Great speech however. The world of Mad Max could happen if we aren’t kinder to each other and take better care of our planet.
How fitting that Cate Blanchett presents the Costume Award. She is already the winner of 2016 Oscars in our book!
Ok, the ticker acceptance speech is officially a horrible idea!
Yes! Well-deserved, Alicia!
Sam Smith is the male Adele!
Love the song from Specter.
None reading or cares about the ticket. Yes annoying.
Agreed about opening monologue. Well done. Just saw Brooklyn this afternoon. Such a beautiful film
Will Jeda Pinket be mad at Chris? I think he dissed her in monologue. Anyone agree.
What’s up with the ticker? Distracting and annoying.
Brooklyn was robbed!
Spotlight has its first Oscar…are more to come?
Agreed!
I think Chris really did a fantastic job. He said what had to be said with grace and humor. He had a really difficult job.
YES! It’s about OPPORTUNITY.
Wow! Thought-provoking monologue. Is it “‘Fetch me some lemonade’ racist?” and “Hollywood is sorority racist.”
Chris Rock looks smart in his white jacket.
And he has the right tone so far…
Love that Lady Gaga is speaking out and singing an anthem about rape and sexual abuse and Ruffalo and the cast of Spotlight are hammering the Catholic church to admit that priests have abused children under their care for how long???
Mark Ruffalo’s wife’s name is “Sunrise???”
Pat, you’re right. Charlize’s dress is wonderful. Lots of critics think she should have been nominated for Mad Max.
Gaga has really become an eloquent spokesperson. She continues to surprise and impress me.
Never thought I’d say it but I love Gaga’s outfit !!
Cherlize Theron Is wearing the hottest RED dress in the history of red dresses! Call the fire department quick.
I loved Lady Gaga’s skirt over trousers evening dress. She has such great taste.
I love Michael Strahan! So funny, easy, and delightful to listen to.
No one has eaten for days, Andrea. Then there are the celebrity colonic treatments for that stubborn bloat. So glad that you joined us!
Robin Roberts is a great interviewer. Refreshingly smart questions and comments
I hope sweats are appropriate to watch in!! Beautiful dresses- how many pairs of spanks do you think go into a night like this?!
Open the dictionary to “elegant,” and there’s a picture of Cate!
Cate Blanchett in Armani. — YES, YES, YES.
Tina Fey makes smart look good!
Kerry Washington on why she chose NOT to boycott the Oscar’s in response to the #OscarsSoWhite controversy:
“I respect the decision not to show up. But I think we also need everyone at the table if we are going to implement institutional change.”
Do I have to drink now?
Kerry Washington had a very interesting perspective about wanting to be a voice at the table.
I like watching the red carpet with the sound muted. That way I can see the beautiful gowns without having to hear, “What are you wearing?”
Really looking forward to what he has to say. He doesn’t usually pull punches.
I have to work tomorrow, Alex! I could never drink that much and work. Everyone seems to think that Chris Rock can’t discuss “the elephant in the room”, be funny and celebrate the winners. Of course he can.
Should we each take a drink whenever they allude to this year’s inclusion “controversy?” I’m getting a little tired of their praising “the conversation.”
Robin Roberts just interviewed three lovely leading women on the red carpet. Here’s what our resident movie expert Alexandra MacAaron had to say about their performances:
Alicia Vikander of The Danish Girl
Saoirse Ronan of Brooklyn
Brie Larson of Room
Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander both have very youthful hairdos. Um … maybe because they are very youthful. So much talent in such young women. Wow.
Yes!!! “All of us had someone come over on a boat.”
Love the Calvin Klein green dress on Brooklyn star! “America is made up of immigrants”…someone tell this to the Donald
The Red Carpet has started! I like Saoirse Ronan’s mismatched earrings. And her nod to the Emerald Island.
Your PJ’s sound fancier than mine, Dr. Pat! 😉
I am all dressed up in my La Perla cashmere PJ’s and robe and ready to enjoy the night with our WVFC community.
We can’t wait to see our Women’s Voices community live blogging the 2016 Oscar’s with us at 7 p.m. EST.
Here’s some of the Oscar coverage and Oscar fun we’ve had over the years.
