We arrived in Minneapolis this week, attending our first ever Republican Convention. How is it different from the many Democratic Conventions we've been to? Well,we have to say people are dressed well and the food is better. The real kicker though is friendliness; everyone here is frighteningly cheerful, but I think that's because we are smack dab in the Midwest.

Last week the buzz in Denver was all about two speeches – Hillary Clinton's and Barack Obama's. (Nobody really even noticed Joe Biden, and the "keynote" by Mark Warner was not especially memorable.)

Here, there are only two words on everyone's mind; Sarah Palin. Before she speaks tonight, two of McCain's top women will precede her; former Ebay chief Meg Whitman, and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. Whatever you feel about the presidential election, John McCain has shaken up the race. Even though she is only running for vice president, Palin tonight will have to look and sound presidential. In other words, one could argue she's going to have to be twice as good as a young male governor would. But isn't that always the way?
