Last week we launched our Fashion Friday Series on Neutrals with a timeless classic: Navy Blue. And we asked you not to confuse neutral with dull! This week we focus on Brown—a tried and true color of fall. It blends well with the season and serves as a great transitional color for colder months ahead.

Try pairing a textured jacket with a timeless leather pencil  skirt or even a pair of corduroy pants. The Pacey pumps by TORY BURCH complement the leather skirt and tweed jacket perfectly for an  inspired fall office look. Or for a more casual look, pair dark brown ankle boots with corduroy pants to elongate the legs. Add a hint of sparkle with a graphic, textured link necklace by EDIE BORGA. To top off the monochromatic fall look, the SURELL fox fur collar adds a touch of softness for those cold, windy days.

For a fall dress that will transition seamlessly from the office to dinner, ELIE TAHARI’S Lolly dress fits the bill in beautifully textured rust jacquard leather with flecks of orange, brown, and gold. Pair with a comfortable stacked mid-heel during the day and switch to an arch-revealing suede pump at night to lengthen the legs. Mix and match accessories to complement the dual textures of the dress. Add a pop of color with an orange tote to break up the dark tones.

    Dear Readers,
We welcome your comments and your points of view about hem lengths, color choices, wearing leather or fur, and price points. We appreciate your voices. Just a reminder: Fashion Friday takes at least six hours to create a theme, find the images, create links, and write the text. We think that beginning the weekend with a bit of beauty and fun is something that most women over 40 look forward to. Do share our Fashion Friday site with your friends!

I’m totally with you regarding the wearing of fur, Roz. It is even difficult to be around someone else wearing it.

I prefer wearing the deeply-saturated colors of fall (in the blue/green/aubergine/red spectra) rather than the browns and blacks. The color is too beautiful to be relegated to an accent.

I wore fur in my youth but am no longer comfortable doing so. I’m not saying that fur isn’t warm or beautiful, but, for me, the cruelty to the animal involved is too troubling. That being said, you’ve got me thinking “maybe brown?” instead of my usual “Always black!”
