Meeling Wong On Her Favorite Fall Indulgences

Meeling Wong has been in the luxury jewelry industry for over twenty years. She is president of North America and Managing Director of Jewellery for Georg Jensen — the global luxury brand whose timeless aesthetic designs are infused with functionality and beauty. Meeling believes in “Consistency, Trust, and Discovery,” when it comes to getting clients to fall in love with a luxury brand. “I think we trust certain brands when we go into a store. We expect to see what we want to see; a loyal customer wants to be excited and to discover the next new thing about their favorite brand,” she says. Before joining Georg Jensen, Meeling served as national sales manager at David Yurman, as well as president of John Hardy. In 2005, Meeling created her own consulting firm, Meeling Wong Associates, which specializes in developing young fine jewelry brands.

What are your favorite trends for fall?

I am excited that neckrings are being touted by the fashion houses. Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe designed her first neckring in the 1940s, I think they are incredibly modern and tribal at same time. I also adore pinky signet rings even if you don’t have a family crest!

What are your five favorite fall essentials?

A rain cape, smart looking boots and shoes with sensible heels that I can wear all day, a chilled bottle of good bubbly, a New Yorker subscription, and definitely a good sense of humor which I admit has recently lapsed.

What are your favorite fall accessories?

A Lamellae silver cuff and ring from the Georg Jensen X Zaha Hadid collaboration — miraculously they add sizzle to my wardrobe.

What is on your holiday gift list?

A Kindle and the new Dyson hair dryer for myself. For friends and family, I am partial to the Georg Jensen Home Collection, which is so diverse that there’s something fun or special for everyone.

What is your favorite fall fragrance?

I live in New York and love the autumn air, I can actually “smell” the leaves when I walk in Prospect Park, it reminds me of the holidays ahead.

Your favorite fall destination?

Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur is almost heaven, anytime of the year actually.

What books, films and exhibitions are on your list to see and read this fall?

Taffin” the new book by James Taffin de Givenchy to feast my eyes on and read. I always enjoy visiting the V&A Museum in London, this time to catch the installation in the courtyard by the University of Stuttgart — a robotically fabricated carbon-fibre pavilion. My interest in 3D printing technology has peaked since our collaboration with Zaha Hadid. I watch most films on planes since I travel so much, and I’m not as fussy about what I watch when I’m flying!
