Luis Carlos Montalvan Former U.S. Army Captain Luis Carlos Montalván is an award-winning New York Times Bestselling author, public speaker and vocal advocate. His written work has been featured in outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Baltimore Sun, and Military Review. Montalván served multiple deployments abroad including two tours in the Iraq War. Over the course of 17+ years of military service, he was decorated with numerous awards including two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, and the Combat Action Badge. Montalván has a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Maryland, College Park.
