From Patricia Yarberry Allen, M.D., Publisher of Women’s Voices for Change
All of us here at Women’s Voices for Change want to offer our deepest thanks to all of our readers and everyone at BabyHeart for embracing the Valentine’s Day Romantic Movie Survey with such enthusiasm.
Of course, the voting was never the point (though finding out that The Notebook was the hands-down favorite was tons of fun). The point was to make new friends for both BabyHeart and Women’s Voices for Change, and to allow one of our faithful supporters to have the pleasure of doing good while doing something for us as well.
BabyHeart was a wonderful partner in this happy endeavor. They reached far and wide to get the word out about the opportunity to bring funds to their cause. Friends and supporters of Women’s Voices for Change went the distance—telling their readers about the survey and encouraging them to come to our site to vote. These supporters included Tish Jett; Stacey Bewkes, the muse at www.quintessenceblog.com; Rita Crotty, Executive Director of the New York Women’s Forum, who included our challenge in the email to the members of that important organization; and mentions on the Facebook pages of many organizations and supporters, including the Council of 100 for Northwestern University. Co-editor Grace Ali took this film bull by the horns and tamed it into something that ran smoothly and was easy to understand.
And you opened your hearts in spades. BabyHeart will be receiving a check for $10,415 this week. Many, many babies will be spared the tragedies that accompany heart defects as a result.
We thank you for your participation. Traffic is queen on the Internet. We depend on page views to demonstrate our reach and impact to existing and potential funders. The Valentine’s Day Romantic Movie Survey was designed to bring us more readers, and it did that.
In closing with deepest thanks, I reveal our deepest wish. Spread the word about www.womensvoicesforchange.org. So many of you tell us how important Women’s Voices is to you. We want to be that for as many women as we can.
Again, many thanks. With best wishes from me and the entire WVFC Board,
Dr. Pat
