Oscar Central: Women’s Voices’ Live Blog of the 2017 Academy Awards

Today is the day! It’s time for red carpets, teary speeches, and bets lost and won. We are live-blogging the Oscars tonight to cheer on our favorites and dish about the absurdities.

Starting at 7 p.m. (EST) tonight, Sunday, February 26, we’ll be watching the 89th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Join us right here, cheer along, scroll down, and comment. (Log in any time during the ceremony that you feel the urge to opine.) We welcome your remarks—as short or long as you like. Comments will be screened before we post them, and our online chats are famously civil (if a little catty sometimes about fashion). Feel free to share your point of view. Feel free to share links and photos—and Tweets @womensvoices, too!

And catch up on our Oscar-nominated movie coverage with Alex MacAaron’s reviews.

Um… that was a thing. Anyway, see you next year. Hugs.

(Walks away feeling happy and confused, and knowing she’ll wake up to all the wrong conspiracy theories.)

Just rewound to watch all the confusion again. Adele Romanski rocked her acceptance speech. Wow! Good-night, all!

Maybe this was the Oscar’s way of making sure we watch the whole thing (all 8 hours!) kidding. Goodnight everyone. And congratulations to both La La Land and Moonlight. Thanks for joining our live blog!

FAKE NEWS! This is Oscar History for sure. I guess “Moonlight” is the actual winner. I think we will be hearing more about this in the coming days, ( and weeks, possibly years?).

Seriously, I stayed up for this? I should have gone to bed after the screenplay awards the way Chris did.

“Blue eyed?!?!?” fsck that noise. Anyway, sleep well.

I expected Stone to win, but I’m still a little disappointed. I think Negga, Hubbert, and Portman were all wonderful.

Emma, I’m a let you finish, but Taraji Henderson should have been up there.

Out of all the actual nominees I was trying to expect Natalie Portman. Still haven’t seen Loving yet; only know Ruth Negga from Agents of SHIELD

    • Alexandra MacAarob February 27, 2017 at 12:03 am

I absolutely agree that Taraji was robbed. And, I was pleasantly surprised by Portman (thought she was better in Jackie than in Black Swan). See Loving when you can. Negga is transcendent.

Given that the show is running over (and always does), there seem to be a lot of stupid bits, like the “We Bought A Zoo” thing. For the record, I’m now the only person in my house who is still awake. In fact, the dog gave up a while ago too.

Again, there is a patronizing, bored tone about the “technical awards.” Too much playing to the audience–one of the things that used to make the Oscars feel genuine is the attention paid to ALL the artists who make films.
