Today is the day! It’s time for red carpets, teary speeches, and bets lost and won. We are live-blogging the Oscars tonight to cheer on our favorites and dish about the absurdities.
Starting at 7 p.m. (EST) tonight, Sunday, February 26, we’ll be watching the 89th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
Join us right here, cheer along, scroll down, and comment. (Log in any time during the ceremony that you feel the urge to opine.) We welcome your remarks—as short or long as you like. Comments will be screened before we post them, and our online chats are famously civil (if a little catty sometimes about fashion). Feel free to share your point of view. Feel free to share links and photos—and Tweets @womensvoices, too!
And catch up on our Oscar-nominated movie coverage with Alex MacAaron’s reviews.
Child number 9?

Get that prune off the screen, and have some pity for his 26-year-old wife.
Ava DuVernay, director of Best Documentary nominee “13th,” chose a Lebanese designer to protest the Trump Administration’s immigrant ban. https://twitter.com/ava/status/836024248887984128
Billy Eichner on Twitter: “People get mad when someone says “Hidden Fences” but in their defense sometimes I say La La Hacksaw.”
Ok, I don’t usually give a damn about commercials, but Samsung just gave love to skater girls. <3
Wow, I just saw Janelle Monae’s dress. Totally Archandroid-worthy.
I’m thinking the B column will be filled first.

Thanks for the connection to woke-oscars-bingo!
Anyone wanna play Woke Oscar Bingo? http://www.mtv.com/news/2986451/pink-pussy-hats-and-shouts-to-hillary-its-woke-oscars-bingo/
I’ve only seen two of the Best Picture noms this year: Hidden Figures, and Manchester by the Sea. The former was a gift to the world; the latter was pretty damned excruciating.
I haven’t been able to see “Manchester By The Sea” yet (even though we live three towns away from the actual Manchester). It looks so bleak! Plus, the stories about Casey Affleck’s harassment allegations are disturbing.
I thought Manchester By The Sea was a downer downer downer. I know that people are sent to prison for life but I don’t want to pay to see them suffer.
Can I quote you in a tweet?
For me, those two plus Fences, which as Pat says deserves ALL the awards.

Great news. (Now if we can just edge our way back into the Director category!)
Chris, Hunter boy Lin Manuel brought his mum!
Though I hope his wife got to come too!
E! was talking about Taraji Henson just now. I really think she should have been nominated. I thought she was tremendous in “Hidden Figures.”
I didn’t realize until you said so that she hadn’t been nominated. She should have been, for lead. Fingers crossed for Octavia though.
Now that these shows are shot in high-def video, I’m made more and more aware how PAINFULLY thin these actors are. Even the men.
Excellent point! People (especially women) who are NORMAL look FAT.
I really like Emma Stone’s fringe!
Ava Duvernay’s dress is stunning! I know I am so superficial but I love the dresses…
I think we all do! 😉
Though see my comment on skinniness above.
Especially when they’re dressed like Olivia Wilde here: https://www.google.com/search?q=oscar+red+carpet&client=ubuntu&espv=2&biw=867&bih=452&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjCneuEha_SAhVC5iYKHf00A9cQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=7qSwkf6K-xJarM:
Love that Dev Patel brought his mum!
So did Lin-Manuel!
Great minds! I just gave you a shout-out with the same observation.
Is everyone watching ABC? Or are you watching E! ?
What our Alexandra MacAaron had to say about Dev Patel and “Lion”:
https://womensvoicesforchange.org/movie-review-in-heartwarming-lion-theres-no-place-like-home.htm
“Lion, the wonderful film by first-time feature director Garth Davis, can be described many ways. It’s a rags-to-riches story of Dickensian proportion. It’s a gorgeous cinematic travelogue with magnificent footage of India and Australia. It’s a meditation on the meaning of self and family. But, perhaps above all else, it’s the most effective advertising ever made for Google’s virtual mapping application. And it’s true.”
My favorite dress this evening is the Dior worn by Kirsten Dunst. Incredibly elegant.
Robin Roberts is stunning in the gold. She looks like an Oscar!
Question: When did the Oscars’ coverage turn into an ESPN, play by play, coverage?
Hi everyone!
I had some “technical difficulties.” So glad to be with you all tonight. Happy Oscars!
Alex
Hi Chris! I remember when you were our Editor for Oscar-Night. Amazing isn’t it that womensvoicesforchange
celebrated its first ten years November 21st? It has been a marvelous year for Women’s Voices for Change. We have a wonderful board who support the work and growth of the site. 2017 saw the creation of a new site design overseen by Sherry Donovan and Barbara Chapman and our great IT guy Steve Bruner. And we can’t say enough wonderful things about our editors Grace Ali, Carla Baranauckas and Deb Harkins and our writers…Now back to the glamour and suspense.
Robin Givhan’s Twitter feed is fun tonight. Alex MacAaron will appreciate this one: https://twitter.com/RobinGivhan/status/835989580834799617
I’m SURE Lin’s tux is from Yonkers!
It’s interesting to see so many people, including Ruth Negga, wearing the blue ACLU ribbons.
Hello Oscar Bloggers! We’ll be hosting your opinions here as well as keeping an eye out for your Twitter mentions @womensvoices. Our annual live-blogging begins in 10 mins!
I missed that!
Sunny Pawar gets my vote for the cutest person ever on the red carpet!
I’m just kinda terrified of a La La Land sweep — after everyone praises the Moonlight, Fences and Hidden Figures, Hollywood will revert to form and crown the Movie About Movies.
If Fences doesn’t win, it’s rigged.
Nice to ‘hear’ you, Pat. And I agree.
Tho right now I’m smiling at Taraji P. Henson on the red carpet….
Taraji P. Henson puts the Voom in Va Va!
I missed that!
I agree! As much as La La Land was a fun escape, there are more significant films nominated. Also, if you think about last year’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy, it would be a shame if the whitest movie nominated beat three powerful movies about the black American experience.
